Let’s go fly a kite! The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival, rated the BEST festival in the East Bay, is blowing into San Ramon Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd. on Sunday and Monday, May 25 & 26 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.  The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival includes over 150 fine arts & craft vendors juried by Pacific Fine Arts featuring a wide range of artistry including paintings, sculpture, woodwork, toys, jewelry, hand painted clothing, stained glass, music, photography and more.

Kites are one of the main attractions of the event. Featured will be professional aerobatic kite flying demonstrations choreographed to music and a free kite making workshop (presented by Whole Foods Market), all day, both days.

Exciting entertainment will be happening on four stages and includes high power party bands, world class folk music, mellow blues and swinging jazz. Besides great music there will be puppet shows, Taiko drummers, ethnic dancers and birds of prey experience and show by West Coast Falconry.

Designed for children are the two Kid’s Zones featuring free crafts and face painting in addition to ticketed amusement rides, a rock climbing wall, giant hamster balls and electronic games. Visit www.ArtandWind.com for a discounted amusement coupon.
Take a break from all the fun and enjoy great food provided by area non-profit organizations. Get delicious festival food including gyros, peach cobbler, kettle corn, barbecued pork, tri-tip sandwiches, donut sundaes, sausage sandwiches, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, nachos and more.  Last year local non-profit organizations raised over $75,000 in much needed funds that benefit the whole community.

The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival has a fantastic line-up of entertainment on 4 stages featuring dance groups, vocal groups and exciting bands.  The Puppet Show Stage will be returning this year with shows each day to entertain children and adults alike.  The Puppet Shows will be presented behind the children’s playground at San Ramon Central Park by the concession stand.

On both Sunday and Monday, May 25 & 26, the Puppet Art Theater Company will present Tommy’s Space Adventure at 1:30 p.m., Three Billy Goats Gruff at 2:30 p.m. and Little Red Riding Hood at 3:30 p.m. Under the artistic direction of Art Grueneberger, Puppet Art Theater Company performs hundreds of live performances for family audiences every year. Their shows tour to theaters, festivals, and public events all over California and they routinely perform at Fairytale Town’s Children’s Theater. With a keen sense of humor and a flair for drama, Grueneberger is a master at developing marvelous puppet shows that delight audiences of all ages. Find out more about their shows at www.puppetarts.com.

The East Bay Bicycle Coalition will provide FREE valet bike parking at the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival on Sunday & Monday, May 25 & 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in San Ramon’s Central Park.   Trained staff and volunteers will watch over bikes in a secure and sectioned off area adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail just north of Bollinger Canyon Road.

The public is encouraged to ride their bikes to the festival and take advantage of this free service.  This allows you to enjoy the event without worrying about the safety of your bike.  Biking helps reduce your carbon footprint as it is environmentally friendly, saves you money on gas and helps you stay healthy.  The valet bike parking will be available both days of the festival and is conveniently located adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail which is a great, accessible bike path that runs from Concord to Dublin.

Artists Get Creative for San Ramon Art & Wind Festival
Enjoy browsing and shopping among the many fine arts and crafts vendors at the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. This free, family-friendly event highlights 150 talented artists in California and beyond exhibiting and selling their work over Memorial Day weekend. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety of beautifully hand-crafted items including paintings, photographs, jewelry, clothing, pottery, toys kites and more.

Each year, the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival commissions an art piece to be featured on the event poster and items such as mugs, shirts and caps. The 2014 art piece is by artist Gregg Visintainer of Viz Art Ink.

Gregg “Viz” Visintainer is an extreme doodle artist whose unique artwork contains hidden pictures, words and messages. He is a self-taught artist and is the youngest of three boys. His unique style of drawing began when he was 15 years old, in high school. During class instead of listening and taking notes he was doodling. Viz Art Ink is hand drawn, using pen and ink. From afar, there is a main image but up-close you will find hidden pictures, words, messages and a lot of meaning that relates to each theme. It takes Viz on average about 60-80 hours to complete an art piece. His style has gained recognition throughout Southern California and in the action sports industry. In the last three years he has worked with Element Skateboards, Volcom, DC Shoes, Dregs Skateboards, Skinit, Grateful Dead, Falken Tires, Disney and others. You can purchase San Ramon Art and Wind Festival items featuring Gregg’s artwork at www.ArtandWind.com.
