The After School Enrichment classes are conveniently timed so students can attend immediately after school. Students who are attending an After School Enrichment (ASE) class should go to their ASE class location directly after school.

If your child attends the Growing Room, please send your child directly to the class or have an authorized adult sign the child out and bring them to the class. Some instructors are able to pick–up from the Growing Room by request, please see the individual course descriptions for availability. All instructors will bring children to the Growing Room at the end of class if requested.

Robotics with NXT Lego Mindstorm
Take Robotics to the NXT level! Using the popular Mindstorm kit from LEGO, construct and program different models inspired by your favorite space movies! Drive the Mars Rover bot, program Wall-E Bot and let R2Bot get activated by touch! Learn all about the various sensors, how to program multiple motors and play around with gears in this fun beyond the millennium camp! No experience needed. Small groups, trained instructors and our easy to follow instructions reinforce STEM concepts while having fun! No class 2/13, 2/14, 3/6.

public speaking - Advanced Debates and Public Speaking
This is an excellent course to that builds upon the presentation and foundational debate skills in preparation of joining the competitive Debate or Speech Teams of their schools. This class is a combo course of Advanced Public Speaking and Speech Writing and Debates. Each student will learn to write a well-structured and engaging speech, along with different styles such as narrative, descriptive, cause and effect, compare and contrast, process analysis, and persuasive. In debate, students will argue on a variety of their age appropriate topics in various formats.

Snapology - Exploring Alternative Energy
What is alternative energy? We'll discover the different types of energies - renewable, kinetic and potential. We'll emphasize solar energy given the emphasis in our community. Example builds are solar vehicles and creatures, hand generated and a wind turbine. We'll be measuring energy as the builds move in their own way. There's more to it than just flipping a light switch!

Chess is fun and can be learned quickly and easily. Studies have found that chess helps improve test results in reading, science, and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills. Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self-esteem, respect for others, patience, and good sportsmanship. And did we mention: it's FUN! Berkeley Chess School has been teaching State Chess Champions since 1982. No class 2/13, 2/14, 2/20, 3/6, 3/7.

Story Writing
A rocket ship blasting to another planet, a detective sleuthing to crack the case, a sorcerer summoning an entire world. Students of the Story Writing class in Lekha's School of Creative Writing will learn about the genres these characters come from and how they can write stories of their own. From combining animals to create new characters to mapping out whole new worlds, Lekha's classes emphasize using the child's imagination and creativity to create new stories.

mad science - Wacky Wonders
Come explore the science behind everything around us! We will learn the science behind optical illusions, magic tricks, and movie effects. We will discover how and why the toys we all know and love work the way they do. We will use science to explain how we can stay connected with friends and family over long distances. Help us use science to solve the mystery of chemistry! With hands on activities we will explore mysterious mixtures and surprising solutions. We will need to put our mystery solving skills to the test as we use science to solve the mystery of Mr. Baker's stolen cookie recipe. After we help solve this tasty mystery, we will learn about the science of our taste buds and get interactive experience with blind taste tests! As we discover the science around us, you will take something home with you after every class to help you continue your investigations at home!

Narrative Essay
Students will learn to write the narrative essay, which focuses on developing a student's ability to write in the first person and to follow a linear narrative structure. Students will write three- to five-paragraph essays. They also will learn how to plan, outline, and revise their essays. No class 2/13, 2/14, 2/20, 3/3, 3/6 3/7.

Basics of 3D Printing
This course will teach you the basics of 3D modeling and printing, converting images to 3Dmodels, and critical basic concepts in computer aided design (CAD). Working in teams of two participants will uncover the core processes behind 3D printing and reveal one of the most powerful capabilities of the 3D printing revolution-that it's accessible to anyone. Part 1: Intro to 3D Modeling and 3D Printing. Part 2: Digitizing your Design in Photoshop CC. Part 3: Preparing and Exporting a 3D Model from Photoshop. Part 4: Design Tips for Tinkercad. Part 5: Designing your 3D Model in Tinkercad. Part 6: Uploading Your Design, get ready to print. Printing will be completed at the end of the course through Sculpteo. A $30 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class. No class 3/3.

Drawing & Painting; Discover New Mediums!
This class is the class to take if you would like to experiment with mediums such as chalk, charcoal, watercolor, colored pencil and acrylics. We will practice with proportions and detail as our drawing techniques improve. We will make bright and vivid works of art with chalk and paint. We lighten up as value continues to be explored while working with watercolor and drawing pencils. $20 materials fee.
