Jacqueline Keily - Critter College
Hello. I'm super excited to teach this and hope to be able to teach more in the Fall. I'm a former veterinary nurse of eight years. I changed careers in 2003 and have been teaching science ever since. I have 12 years of experience teaching grades 1-9. I love animals. At home I live with two cats and three guinea pigs. In my classroom I have three hamsters (Cheddar, Macaroni, and Cheese) and an aquarium. Children are inherently and intuitively curious naturalists. They're sponges for knowledge, absorbing, retaining and using new information at astounding rates. We all know this, but often we forget when we're helping to develop their roles as future ambassadors with animals.
Having taught for more than 20 in the San Ramon Unified School District, in grades 2 through 8, I felt this would be a great time to do something different, so I made the decision to teach cooking. How thrilled I was to find that there was such a great need in the community, to have children gain the experience of being in the kitchen, creating foods other than cookies, cupcakes, or brownies with their parents. I bring to the table, not only years of classroom experience, but the ability to get kids excited about what they can create themselves, thus being very willing to have brand new experiences with food and tastes. I am happy to be a part of the San Ramon Community Center, and quite thrilled that my program is so well received!
Lekha Ink is committed to developing a generation of children who think beyond the book! Snapology - Denise Lee
Snapology wants to engage kids in “playful learning” to stimulate their creativity and spark an interest to learn especially in STEAM. We take what is familiar and unfamiliar to build a learning experience that is fun. Many kids aren’t as familiar with K’Nex which shows a new way to build constructively as they learn new concepts about animals or with energy. K’Nex uses connections of knobs and rods to show different configurations to build rather than stacking.
Denise Lee loves how she’s found a way to engage kids with Snapology’s activities as they want to return as they have fun learning new concepts. She does tell kids that we may have a challenge to build but we will do it together. The accomplishment of seeing a kid or a team of kids succeed is wonderful as they beam with success that they did it! It’s a wonderful environment to be in the energy of kids wanting to experience something new.
