Volunteer Positions

Clerical

To assist the City staff with various clerical functions and provide customer service support.
Duties may include:
1. Greet/welcome customers
2. Answer telephone
3. Assist customers with questions or registration
4. Filing
5. Copying
6. Word Processing or other computer work
7. Stamping/Mailing
8. Other duties or tasks as needed

Location: San Ramon Community Center, Senior Center, Olympic Pool, City Hall, Forest Home Farms or other location as needed.

Qualifications: Must be age 16 or older, have good communication skills, enjoy providing excellent customer service, can work in a fast paced environment, computer skills helpful but not required. May require fingerprinting and background check. Must be willing to dress appropriately for office environment.

Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per week. Schedule is flexible.

Forest Home Farms Historic Park Docent

Glass House Tour Docent & Victorian Life Education Docent
Purpose:
To implement the tour program and school-age field trip program for people who visit the David Glass House. The success of this program depends on dedicated volunteers.

Duties may include:
Lead tours and hands-on activities that teach about Victorian life. Share the history of the property and some information about the people who lived there. Assist with special events and historic preservation and attend necessary training.

Location: Glass House at Forest Home Farms Historic Park, 19953 San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

Qualifications:
Docents should have an interest in local history and enjoy working with people of all ages. Docents are required to dress in period costumes and assist in historic preservation (cleaning) of the home. Education docents must be available during the weekdays. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, up and down stairs and lead hands-on activities. Must pass fingerprint and background check.

Commitment: Attend an initial training session and updated training sessions as required. School classes will visit the farm for a 1/1/2 hour period. Education docents must be able to volunteer a minimum of 2 sessions per month.

Forest Home Farms Historic Park Docent/Tour Guide

Purpose: To provide information about Forest Home Farms to the public.

Duties may include:
Lead groups on informational tours of the Forest Home Farms property, share the history of the property and information about the people who lived there, answer questions from the public
and attend necessary training.

Location: Forest Home Farms Historic Park, 19953 San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

Qualifications:
Tour Guides/Docents for Forest Home Farms should have an interest in local history and enjoy talking to the public. Volunteers may have to open large/heavy barn doors and have the ability to traverse uneven terrain. Must be a mini um of 18 years of age.

Commitment: Attend an initial two hour training session and updated training sessions as required.

3rd Grade Farm Life Education Docent
Purpose:
To implement the school field trip program for students who visit the farm. The success of this program depends on dedicated volunteers.

Duties may include:
Lead hands-on activities that teach the agricultural history of the San Ramon Valley and in particular, the agricultural history of Forest Home Farms. Share the history of the property and some information about the people who lived there, answer questions from the children, and attend necessary training.

Location: Forest Home Farms, 19953 San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

Qualifications:
Education docents for Forest Home Farms should have an interest in local history and enjoy working with children. Education docents must be available during the weekdays. May have to open large/heavy barn doors and have the ability to traverse uneven terrain. Must pass fingerprint and background check.

Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center Usher

Ushers are ambassadors for the theater, as you provide not only a valuable service to the Performing Arts Center, but you also serve as the face of the community to our patrons to assure they have a wonderful and memorable experience.

Duties may include:
Greet patrons, take tickets, assist people to their seats, monitor the lobby, assist with refreshments, assist with the box office or concessions, know and be able to implement the safety/evacuation plan.
 
Location: Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center, 10550 Albion Road

Qualifications:
Volunteer Ushers should have an interest in the performing or visual arts and should enjoy working with and helping people. They must be enthusiastic, cheerful and willing to learn. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Minimum age is 16. (Some shows will require an older minimum age)

Commitment:
All volunteer ushers are required to commit to a minimum of two performances per quarter. In order to assure adequate staffing for all our shows, ushers are required to work at a minimum of four “small show” performances per year in addition to any “major shows” to reach a minimum total of 8 volunteer shifts per year. Attend an initial training session and other training and meetings as needed.
