 2018 SAN RAMON ART & WIND FESTIVAL

 

“Let’s go fly a kite!”  The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival, the BEST festival in the East Bay, is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, May 27- 28, 2018 in San Ramon’s Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd. from 11am to 6pm both days.

This annual event features fine arts, crafts and specialty food vendors, 3 entertainment stages headlining international music, party bands and variety entertainers, children’s puppet shows, 2 gourmet food courts, family amusement zones, professional choreographed kite flying demonstrations, and free kite making workshop.  The Art and Wind Festival is pet friendly and admission is always FREE.

 ENTERTAINMENT LINE UP

The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival has a fantastic line-up of entertainment on 4 stages featuring dance groups, vocal performances, exciting bands and more! A wide variety of dance and talented music groups will be featured on the Amphitheater Stage, including belly dance, ballet, jazz dance, as well as Indian dance. Sunday’s lineup will include a fencing demonstration by the Diablo Valley Fencing Club at 4pm.

Be sure to check out the great variety of multicultural music at the Chevron Stage this year! The stage is located on the grassy field adjacent to the tennis courts, so bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Don’t miss Sunday’s diverse lineup starting with family fun music with Andy Z and the Andyland Band at 11am and popular Bollywood and Bhangra music and dancing at 1:30pm. Next up, Take 2 will play hits from the 60’s to today closing the day with some great dance music. Monday will begin with the booming sounds of Eden Aoba Taiko, a talented Japanese Taiko drumming group from 11:00am – noon. We’ll relax into the afternoon with Snap Jackson & the Knock on Wood Players strumming the best of Americana & Bluegrass from 12:30 – 2:30pm. Then the Memorial Day Program will take the stage from 3:00 – 3:30pm honoring those that have served our country.  Lastly, a highlight of the festival follows late Monday afternoon, as Bay Area party band Tortilla Soup will have you dancing to Latin sounds and the best R & B hits.

GREAT FUN FOR CHILDREN AND A PUPPET SHOW STAGE FEATURED AT THE SAN RAMON ART & WIND FESTIVAL

The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival is known for its family friendly atmosphere and loads of entertainment especially for Children.  Free kite making workshops, face painting and free crafts, family friendly music and performances plus the Puppet Show Stage will be back this year with shows each day to entertain children and adults alike.  The Puppet Shows will be again presented in the Rose Garden area adjacent to the community center.

On Sunday and Monday, May 27 & 28, the Luce Puppet Company will present Emperor & the Nightingale at 1:30 p.m., Cinderella Builds Her Dream! at 2:30 p.m. and Splashy Sea Saga at 3:30 p.m. Under the artistic direction of award winning puppeteer Elizabeth Luce, Luce Puppet Company has put on hundreds of live performances for family audiences. Their shows tour theaters, festivals, and public events all over California. Luce Puppet Company provides an experience that’s full of fun and fantasy, and has lots of interaction and a chance for the kids to exercise their own imaginations! In addition to the puppet shows, the Art and Wind Festival features two exciting KIDS ZONES, with rides and amusements as well as free kite making, face painting and crafts. Plus, the brand new Mobile Visitors Center from East Bay Regional Park District will make its debut. Connecting kids to nature, the center will feature hands on displays and activities.

 ARTISTS GET CREATIVE

Enjoy browsing and shopping among the many fine arts and crafts vendors at the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. This free, family-friendly event highlights 100 talented artists from California and beyond exhibiting and selling their work over Memorial Day weekend. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety of beautifully hand-crafted items including paintings, photographs, jewelry, clothing, pottery, toys, kites and more.

 Each year, the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival commissions an art piece to be featured on the event poster. The 2018 design is by San Ramon artist Glen Schofield. Glen is an artist, video game director and lecturer. His clients have included some of the largest corporations and ad agencies in the world. An assignment for a video game cover lead him towards a new path. Over the past 25 years, Glen has been creating, directing, Art Directing and designing video games.

He has won dozens of awards worldwide. He co-founded Sledgehammer Games, an Activision Studio, creating Call of Duty games in 2009. Glen will be hosting a Festival Poster Signing & Meet the Artist event during the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival on Monday, May 28th from 1 to 3pm.  All attendees will receive a FREE Festival commemorative poster featuring Glen’s unique artwork.

FREE BIKE VALET SERVICE

Sports Basement of San Ramon will provide FREE valet bike parking at the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival. In addition, Sports Basement is providing each person who valets a bicycle a 20% off coupon for store merchandise.  Just follow the signs on the Iron Horse Trail.

The public is encouraged to ride their bikes to the festival and take advantage of this free service.  This allows you to enjoy the event without worrying about the safety of your bike.  Biking helps reduce your carbon footprint as it is environmentally friendly, saves you money on gas and helps you stay healthy.  The valet bike parking will be available both days of the festival and is conveniently located inside Sports Basement via an entrance on the Iron Horse Trail, an accessible bike path that runs from Concord to Dublin. 

Another great reason to ride your bike is the free helmet fitting for children. Street Smarts is providing bike helmet inspections & fittings inside City Hall, daily during the festival from 12:00-2:00pm.
