COMPENSATION

Rec Leader I: $9.54 - $10.95 per hour, depending on qualifications, education and experience. 
Rec Leader II: $13.94 - $15.99 per hour, depending on qualifications, education and experience.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Program Manager or Recreation Supervisor, these positions provide functional supervision to participants in programs. The Recreation Leader I/II will be responsible for supervising participants, implementing program elements and directing and conducting daily program functions.  Candidates selected for these positions may be assigned to work at various locations including Central Park, Iron Horse Community Gymnasium, Pine Valley Community Gymnasium, Sports Park, Dougherty Station Community Center or other locations throughout San Ramon.  Applicants must be available to work 10 - 40 hours per week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job duties included, but not limited to:

  • Supervise participants in program areas;
  • Open/Close facilities;
  • Facilitate recreation activities according to prepared curriculum;
  • Instructing youth sports classes, league and camps;
  • Officiating youth basketball and flag football games;
  • Scorekeeping adult sports leagues;
  • Reconcile cash funds for program areas, as required;
  • Maintain program discipline;
  • Maintain a safe program environment and facility;
  • Provide feedback regarding program goals, objectives, and activity schedules to the public and participants;
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings;
  • Provide excellent customer services by assisting the public and participants with questions and inquiries;
  • Administer First Aid & CPR as required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of common sports, games and recreation activities appropriate for all ages;
  • Knowledge of youth supervision and leadership techniques;
  • Knowledge of concepts of program risk management and safe work practices;
  • Ability to supervise and lead youth of various ages;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills while interacting with program participants, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public;
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks;
  • Ability to provide reliable and dependable assistance to the assigned program areas;
  • Ability to provide creativity and enthusiasm to the assigned program areas;
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions; and
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16 years of age;
  • Appropriate clearance from background check and/or fingerprinting;
  • Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid and CPR with AED certification by the first day of employment;
  • Ability to submit proof of eligibility to work in the United States; and
  • Proof of a negative skin test for TB within the last 2 years must be submitted at the time of hiring.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Preference to experience working with individuals in a sports setting.
