RECREATION LEADER I

Temporary / Part-Time / No Benefits

COMPENSATION: $10.95 -$13.46 per hour, depending on experience

THE POSITION

Under supervision of a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Technician this position provides assistance with facility rentals, scheduling and conducting customer meetings, executing building set-ups and providing oversight of facility use.  This position ensures all policies and procedures set by the City of San Ramon are followed during all facility functions.  This position may be located at any City facility.  All staff members are required to work Memorial Day weekend, May 26 and 27, and on July 4 to assist the department with special holiday events. The position offers a flexible schedule with approximately 10-35 hours per week that may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays. Work schedules are released a month in advance and are determined by facility hours of operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists other staff in providing services such as building set-ups;
  • Ensures that all Facility Policies set by the City of San Ramon are followed during all facility functions and special events;
  • Maintains the overall appearance and cleanliness of the buildings both prior and post event, ensuring the building is ready for the next scheduled use;
  • Administers first aid as required; handles emergency or unusual situations by notifying the proper authority or responder;
  • Responds to inquires by phone, email or in person regarding facility availability, rental or scheduling; and
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to interact with the public, including handling citizen complaints, in a professional, tactful, patient and courteous manner;
  • Ability to function effectively without direct supervision and to develop effective working relationships with City employees and the public;
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks;
  • Ability to maintain records and use simple math;
  • Knowledge of current office equipment, practices and procedures;
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, such as lifting at least 75 pounds and moving facility equipment and furniture;
  • Ability to assist in the implementation of recreation and community service programs and events; and
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional qualities such as reliability, dependability, creativity, and enthusiasm;
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver's license by date of hire;
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within one month of employment;
  • Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, and at least one year of technical or office experience, preferably in a customer-service oriented environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above;
  • Ability to provide clearance from fingerprinting and local background checks; and
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Benefits are not available for this position beyond what is required by law.
