CLASSES

The City of San Ramon Parks & Community Services Department offers a wide variety of performing arts classes for all ages ranging in disciplines from Theater, Music & Dance.

Classes include: Polynesian Dance, Bollywood Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Combo Classes, Irish Dance, Suzuki Piano, Violin, Drumming, Guitar, Theatre programs, Improv, Community Bands, Adult Dance Classes, Belly Dance, Ukulele, Community Chorus, Rock and Roll classes, and more!

CAMPS

San Ramon offers a wide variety of Performing Arts Summer Camps. Choose from many exciting options in dance, music, and theater. Performing arts camps are offered as part of Camp Central at The San Ramon Community Center at Central Park or Camp Central at Dougherty Station Community Center.

THEATER PROGRAMS

Children's Theatre

Bay Area Children’s Theatre runs programs for Pre Schoolers, Elementary Schoolers, and Middle Schoolers, many of which end in a full production on stage at The Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center. Bay Area Children’s Theatre Education Program teaches the art of live performance to thousands of students throughout the East Bay. Their specialty is “triple threat” musical theatre—singing, dancing and acting.

 Lisa Barber - Improv

Lisa Barber and Suburban Thunder Improv Company entertain and instruct middle schoolers, teenagers, and adults in the art of improv comedy. 

From beginners who have never been on stage to more experienced improvisors, each student is challenged to play and have fun! 

Improv games and longform improv are explored, practiced and developed in class and performed at the end of each session for family and friends.

MUSIC PROGRAMS

John Waller – Guitar, Hand Drumming

John Waller

John Waller has played drum set since age 8 and hand drumming since 1985 starting on Indian Tabla. John started playing Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian drumming since 1995, Middle-Eastern rhythms in 1996 and Brazilian Bateria (samba drum line) in 2004. He has accompanied many musicians in rock, jazz and world music styles and playing concerts and festivals across the US and overseas.

He has played drum and percussion professionally since 2001 and has accompanied nationally and internationally known music artists including Bay Area musicians, Habib Khan, Viviana Guzman, Ya Elah, Moh Alileche, The Dunes, Mark Holzinger, RebbeSoul, Vince Welnick, Chuchito Valdes, David Correa, Laurent Fourgo Flashback, MC Rai, Ray Cepeda and many others including Grammy winners. He is also a guitarist, bassist and songwriter. He has taught music since 1995 in Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and Concord.

 

Mary Chung Lee – Suzuki Piano

Mary Chung Lee

Mary Chung Lee teaches Suzuki piano classes at community center. She received her Bachelor's degree from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York (SUNY) Potsdam in New York.  She went on to obtain her Master's degree in Music Education with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy from West Virginia University.

After graduation, she was the principal pianist with the Vandelia Arts Ensemble.  She is also a certified teacher for grades K-12 and taught piano to preparatory to college level students at various universities.  Prior to moving to the Bay Area, she taught pre-school students in a Suzuki piano program for ten years at Community Music School in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  Since 1999, she has been teaching Suzuki Piano I and Suzuki Piano II classes at the Dougherty Center and offers private lessons at her piano studio in San Ramon.  

 

Steve Kritzer – Ukulele

Bay Area music veteran, Steve Kritzer is not only an award winning Singer/Songwriter, Entertainer, and Multi-instrumentalist, but a popular and and in-demand  Jam leader, and Instructor for adults and kids, known for his professional yet friendly, and engaging teaching style and ability to mold lessons to each students personal needs and abilities.

Steve is a regular performer, instructor, workshop, and jam leader at festivals, coffeehouses and concerts from California to Ireland, including the Fiddlers Green Festival in Ireland, the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and the Burning Uke Festival in Santa Cruz Ca.
