San Ramon LogoParks Maintenance

The Parks Maintenance staff provide horticultural care and maintenance for the City’s 52 community and neighborhood parks, San Ramon Olympic Pool and Tennis Courts, and the Alcosta and Senior Center Park and Gardens. Staff coordinates with the Parks and Community Services Department to provide the best possible recreational programs and the best maintained City parks within Contra Costa County for our community. Parks maintenance staff maintain our parks, playground equipment, and athletic fields.

Maintenance includes: laying out fields per league specifications, maintenance of fences and backstops, maintenance and repair of lighting and PA systems, maintenance of bleachers and scoreboards, mowing and fertilization of turf areas, field renovation, maintenance of irrigation systems and controllers, and weed and pest abatement.  The staff works with field user groups and the Parks & Community Services Department to ensure that the fields are ready and open for use throughout the year.

The City of San Ramon was awarded the title of Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  Staff is currently working to categorize and catalog all of the City's trees.  If you would like additional information on how you can help maintain a healthy urban forest, please visit the Tree City USA website at www.arborday.org.  If you have specific questions about tree pruning or tree planting, click on the links below.

Sports Field Sustainability and Maintenance Plan

On June 7, 2011, the City of San Ramon hosted a presentation from International Sports Turf Consulting on the findings of a sports field sustainability and maintenance assessment.  In November 2010, the City of San Ramon hired PRZ International Sports Turf to assess the City’s field use and maintenance practices in order to develop a maintenance and sustainability plan for the City’s sports fields.  The goal of the plan is to maintain the high quality fields in San Ramon as use and demand increases.  Larry Musser, the president of PRZ International Sports Turf, presented his findings at the Dougherty Station Community Center’s Front Row Theater to sports field user groups and other interested citizens, Parks Commissioners and staff.

The presentation highlights include management of scheduled use and unscheduled periods, implementing effective and cost saving strategies, preserving the quality of the fields and protecting these valuable community assets for years to come.

With the implementation of the City of San Ramon Sports Sustainability and Maintenance Plan, some fields may be closed for renovation.

The Sporting Green is published by the Public Services Department twice a year to provide useful information for the co-sponsored Sports leagues and field users on the maintenance and use of fields in San Ramon.
