Garbage, recyclables, and green waste will not be collected on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, or on New Years Day, Friday, January 1.   Residents with Friday collection will have their materials picked up on Saturday, December 26 and Saturday, January 2.  If you have any questions, contact Waste Management at (925) 837-3356.

The City of San Ramon has a contract with Waste Management to provide these services.  To lodge a complaint about Waste Management, or if you are not satisfied with Waste Management’s services, please contact the City of San Ramon’s Solid Waste and Recycling Program Manager, David Krueger at (925) 977-2824 or Dkrueger@sanramon.ca.gov.

Missed pick-ups reported by 3:00 p.m. on a work day will be collected by the end of that day. Missed pick-ups reported after 3:00 p.m. will be collected by the end of the next work day. Requests for cart repair, replacement, or exchange will be completed within 3 working days of notification.

Curbside Collection

Single family-homes and those condominiums and townhomes with individual cart service receive weekly curbside collection of garbage, recyclables, yard trimmings and used motor oil. All materials are collected on the same day of the week. Collection hours are 5:30 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Residents should place all materials at the curb before 5:30 a.m. on their regular service day.

The carts should be placed squarely facing the street without blocking the sidewalk, and allow 2-3 feet of clearance on all sides so that the automated truck arms can pick them up. Used motor oil jugs and bagged oil filters may be placed at the curb next to the carts. Cardboard boxes which do not fit in your recycling cart may be flattened and set out next to your recycling cart.

If you occasionally have more garbage than will fit in your garbage cart, you can purchase "BAG IT" bags at the City of San Ramon Service Center 5000 Crow Canyon Rd. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ($5.00 per bag, price includes the extra pick-up fee)

Residents with disabilities may request side yard collection service at no additional charge.

Waste Management Holiday Schedule

Garbage and recycling collection in San Ramon through Waste Management does not occur on the following holidays:

• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
• New Year’s Day

If your service falls on or after these holidays, your pickup will occur one day later through Saturday of that week.

Curbside Rates

Residential customers are billed quarterly by Waste Management. Rates are adjusted on January 1 of each year per a cost index formula specified in the contract between the City and Waste Management. Curbside rates are based upon the size of garbage cart requested. Four sizes of residential garbage carts are available:

If you can recycle more and "trash" less, you can save money by getting a smaller garbage cart.  Call Waste Management (837-3356) to exchange your cart size. One free cart exchange per year.

Residential curbside services include weekly recyclables, yard trimmings, and motor oil collection at no additional charge. The standard recycling and yard trimmings carts are 64-gallons each.

Recycling Upgrade
If you regularly overfill your 64-gallon recycling cart, you may trade it in for a 96-gallon cart at no extra charge.

Additional Green Waste Cart
An additional 64-gallon Green waste cart service is available at no extra charge.

Special Clean-Up Days

Each residential neighborhood receives three special clean-up days per year. The cost of the clean-ups is included in the residential rates.
