Specialized OR Military Equipment Policy

On September 30, 2021, California Governor Gavin Newsom approved and signed California State Legislature Assembly Bill 481, titled “Law enforcement and state agencies: military equipment: funding, acquisition, and use.” A component of this update to California Government Code Sections 7070-7075 stipulates that the San Ramon Police Department’s proposed policy must be posted on the City’s website at least 30 days before conducting any public hearing on the policy. The San Ramon City Council was presented with an ordinance for this Military Use Policy and conducted public hearings on this topic in 2022. The policy below was posted 30 days prior to any public hearings.

The City of San Ramon’s ordinance, as it pertains to specialized and military equipment possessed and used by the San Ramon Police Department, was initially adopted during the City Council meeting on April 26, 2022. During the City Council Meeting on April 11, 2023, the City of San Ramon’s City Council approved the renewal of the ordinance and accepted our 2022 Annual Report on Specialized or Military Equipment. Every year, the San Ramon Police Department will provide a report to the City Council to discuss this equipment and hold a public meeting to answer any questions from our community within 30 days of the annual report's release. This year’s Community Meeting was held at the San Ramon Police Department on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 4 - 5 pm.
