Yellow leaves on sidewalk.Street sweepers are crucial in keeping San Ramon's streets clean, especially during the fall and winter months when trees shed their leaves. While they are designed to remove naturally occurring dirt and leaf accumulation to promote efficient drainage, large piles of yard waste can cause the sweeper to clog and break down.

Leaves collected in gutters can also hide larger objects that can damage sweepers. As a result, sweepers bypass large mounds of debris. Sweeper operators sweep residential areas twice a month and arterial roadways once a week. To dispose of leaves, put them in the green waste container or use them for composting. Do not sweep leaves into the gutter line, which can cause drainage issues. Raking leaves into the street is also considered illegal dumping.

SERVICES DURING THE FALL LEAF SEASON:

From November 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, San Ramon public streets will be swept weekly (up to four times per month) during the fall leaf season.

  • If you have any questions for the City’s street sweeping vendor, Contract Sweeping Services, you can reach them by calling (408) 498-4631.
  • Outside of leaf season, Public streets are swept twice per month. You can find the street sweeping schedule/map by clicking on the provided street sweeping schedule/map .

  • Please avoid parking on the street on your scheduled street-sweeping day.

  • During peak leaf season, you may see a sweeper working in your neighborhood on a Saturday or on another day that is not your scheduled sweep day. This is because there is an additional sweeper working to manage the increased leaf fall. These extra sweeps are unscheduled. However, your regular scheduled street sweeping day will always remain the same.
  • While your scheduled street sweeping day will not change, we cannot guarantee a specific time for sweeping, especially during leaf season. During this time, sweeping may occur later in the day than usual because the increased number of leaves takes longer to remove.

  • Residential streets are swept between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

  • Suppose you see a street sweeper driving down the street but not sweeping. This is usually because it is full of leaves and is leaving the route to dump or returning to the route after dumping leaves. The sweeper will resume sweeping the route after dumping.

  • Please do not leave your organics, recycling, or garbage carts out in the street on your scheduled street sweeping day. The routes are designed so that streets are always swept two days after garbage day.
  • Please DO NOT rake or blow leaves from private property onto City roadways as this disrupts the effectiveness of the City's street sweeping schedule. Purposely raking or pushing leaves and other foreign objects from private property onto City roadways may be considered illegal dumping. This action can also result in fines for Illegal Dumping. To avoid these fines we ask homeowners to place leaves, grass, and other yard waste in their green organics carts. These carts are serviced weekly by ACI as part of your garbage service. If you need a larger cart or additional carts, please contact ACI at (925) 380-9480 / [email protected]. Additionally, you can purchase large paper bags from ACI and the City to set out occasional extra leaves and yard trimmings next to your carts for curbside collection. Paper bags are available for purchase at City Hall which is located at 7000 Bollinger Canyon Rd. Click here for information on purchasing extra yard trimming bags.

  • Keep trees trimmedLow-hanging trees can damage the street sweepers and garbage collection trucks and must be trimmed to accommodate a 14' 6" clearance.
