Victorians had a close relationship with death and as such had extensive mourning traditions for their loved ones.
Come learn about the hazards Victorians faced that lead to untimely deaths, including some from the Glass Family after which the San Ramon Glass House was named. This darkly educational specialty tour is open ages 12 and older but geared for adults.

Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult and we ask that chaperones ensure participating children do not disrupt tour.

Join us for a time of holiday cheer in the Victorian style for this Glass House Specialty Tour. After learning about Victorian holiday traditions, sing your way over to the Boone House with some traditional carols, and enjoy nutcracker nibbles and mulled apple cider.

Fun on the Farm

Saturdays from 11am to 2pm

Fun on the Farm Activities are FREE* crafts and activities that highlight farm life and the late Victorian era. These Saturday events are an opportunity to step back into history and enjoy the simple things of life. These free Saturday events are a partnership between the City of San Ramon and the San Ramon Historic Foundation.

OCTOBER

OCT 3 – Farm Horse

Meet our model horse, “Ramon” and learn about the real horses that used to live at the farm. See some of the equipment used with horses and experience how it feels to sit in a saddle.

OCT 10 – Indigenous People’s Day
Join us in celebrating our Nation’s first inhabitants and learn about the Tribal Nations that lived in the San Ramon Valley.

OCT 17 – Iron Horse
From Farm Horse to Iron Horse, learn the history of trains and the Iron Horse trail in the San Ramon Valley and make a craft to take home.

OCT 24 – Trick or Treat on the Farm
Come in your Halloween costume for a Trick or treat adventure. Travel around the farm to different stations for activities and treats to take home!

OCT 31 – Pumpkins, Gourds, & Squash
Pumpkins and gourds are staple of fall decor and harvest treats. Come learn about the many uses of pumpkins and gourds, take home a winter squash recipe and make a craft to take home.

NOVEMBER

NOV 7 – Quality Quilts
Come and learn about the history of quilting and create your own paper quilt square

NOV 14 – Bread & Jam

Fall is the best time for bread and jams made from summer fruits. Follow wheat from the field to the table as you thresh, grind, and sift wheat kernels to make flour then find out how it turns into tasty bread.

NOV 21 – Turkey Time
While turkeys are found all over the country, the ones you see around town were brought in from Oklahoma and Texas. Learn about these large birds and make a craft.

DECEMBER

DEC 5 – Candle Making
These days, candles are for special occasions. But in the 1800’s candles served as the only source of light after dark! Children would make candles to help their families by collecting and melting wax from beehives. Learn the process of candle making and make your own candle to take home.

DEC 12 – Holiday on the Farm
Enjoy an old-fashioned holiday gathering at Forest Home Farm Historic Park. Have a traditional holiday family experience including visits with Santa, old fashioned ornament making, a puppet show, holiday entertainment and refreshments.
