Chess Class
Instructor: Berkeley Chess School
Chess is fun and can be learned quickly and easily. Studies have found that chess helps improve test results in reading, science, and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills. Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self-esteem, respect for others, patience, and good sportsmanship. And did we mention: it's FUN! Berkeley Chess School has been teaching State Chess Champions since 1982.

Little Medical School Classes

Little Pediatrician 
Future Pediatrician class takes a new twist on the traditional expectant sibling offerings. Using our successful role-playing techniques, students will assume the role of a pediatrician and learn how to hold the baby, do an exam just like a real doctor, change a diaper and keep the baby safe. $20 Material Fee.

Little Vet School 
Little Veterinarian School, children learn to make important measurements on their very own stuffed animal dog, Students will learn how much water their dogs need in a day and will make a water bowl. They will also learn how to remove ticks using proper techniques and learn the importance of vaccines. $25 Materials Fee.

Chinese Immersion for Beginners
This class is designed to motivate and foster students’ interest in learning Chinese as their second language. Students will embark on a meaningful journey in which they will develop a joy and appreciation of the Chinese language, ultimately it will lead them to a skillful and successful bilingual.   The emphasis of the class is to make learning fun and effective through interesting games and activities, arts and crafts, Chinese music and songs, and hands on lab experiments. The goal is to have students learn Chinese naturally in an interactive and comfortable setting, so that students embrace Chinese language and culture with confidence and enthusiasm. At the end of the session, students will take home their creations and fun projects. $15 Materials Fee.

New! Intermediate Chinese Immersion 
You’ve embarked an exciting journey to become bilingual, now let’s take your Chinese to the next level through the intermediate Chinese class: “I’m speaking Chinese!”  In this session students will be completely immersed in the Chinese language and culture while learning intermediate conversational Chinese, increasing reading comprehension, accelerating speaking fluency, reducing tonal errors and expanding vocabulary.

Chinese Immersion and Enrichment Program
Pinnacle Learning offers an all year-round Chinese After-School enrichment program designed for students in elementary school.  Our center opens daily immediately after school until 6:30pm. This program is professionally created by a bilingual curriculum expert and is taught by highly trained and experienced bilingual teachers.  The program emphasizes making learning fun and effective.  Students will embark on a meaningful journey through immersive experiences by participating in interesting games and activities, doing arts and crafts, singing Chinese songs and performing hands on lab experiments, etc.  Students learn to speak, read, and write Chinese through 21st century teaching techniques. $30 material fee each session (9 weeks).

The goal of this program is to:

•Help students develop and extend their language skills, critical thinking and problem-solving, and real life skills.
•Learn the wonderful world of math through fun games and challenging activities that encourage deep thinking.
•Embrace the art of learning with confidence and enthusiasm that will last them a lifetime.
•Develop a deep appreciation for Chinese language, culture, and traditions.
No class on public holidays and Thanksgiving Week.

Each island is made up of numerous whimsical 'destinations' where children work in collaborative tribes on action-packed challenges using only the materials in their treasure chests and their creativity. Snapology Classes

Adventure as Ninjas using LEGO(R)
Let’s join forces in this class together to find the Ninja within each of us using LEGO®. We’ll build to battle with your friends in Ninjago for the greater good!  How will we find inner peace?  By unleashing the power of building from within each of us.   We’ll create battle stadiums for spinner battle; build a dojo; and use different methods of testing our Ninja skills. The emphasis is problem solving by the task given to create and build.

Pokemania Explorations using LEGO(R)
Come join Snapology for Pokemania. Students will build and explore the world of Pokemon. A progression from Pokeballs to characters to making their own cards.  They’ll create their own Pokemon characters, gyms, battles and their own generations of Pokemon.  Your student will be a Pokemon trainer during these classes.  The emphasis is problem solving by the task given to create and build.

Animate with JavaScript
 Have fun learning how to write computer programs! We will explore writing code to create dynamic, animated digital art and web pages with images, shapes, sounds, and text! Students will learn the fundamentals of computer programming using the very popular language, JavaScript, and will be able to immediately see the results of their code. All necessary equipment will be provided for use during class. Great for beginners or continuing students. No prerequisites required.   The main goals of the class are to give students a fun experience, while increasing their exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), the scientific method, planning, prioritization, time management, completing projects from start to finish, and organization. Students will gain an appreciation for programming and see how easy it is to learn. They will learn how to break down and analyze problems as they debug their code.

Games with JavaScript

Have fun learning how to program a robotic forklift! Write code to make it navigate a maze and to pick up and move objects. Students will learn the fundamentals of computer programming using the popular Python language and will see how the commands that they issue directly control the robot. AI Vision

Open Lab
Open Lab is for students enrolled in Fun with Robotic Programming who want extra coding and exploration time. Students get creative and choose what they want to work on! Instructors will be available to provide guidance and answer questions. This is a great opportunity to work more on any lab assignments or to tackle the many Challenge Labs accompanying each class.

Session 1: LauncherBOTS
Which one launches the farthest? Build the catapult, the grumpy bird and the crossbow to discover how levers, tension, and torque can affect the distance an object is launched. Create your own launcher in Week 4. Each team of two is provided with a kit and a computer to build and program their model.

Which one rotates the fastest? Does the Satellite or the Ninja Star spin faster? Create a program timer for your robot that counts the seconds! Adventures in Writing
You are the creator of your world. Wherever your imagination takes you: whether it be a space adventure, a mystery to be solved, or a trip back in time. Students will be guided to infuse their writing with vivid imagery, descriptive prose and powerful, exciting endings. The elements of story writing will be discussed and utilized. This class is an ongoing class throughout the year. Poetry and essay writing will follow story writing.
