Purpose:
The Teen Council Poetry Contest is a creative outlet for students to express their voice about
their community. Through poetry, participants have the opportunity to portray their views,
opinions, and experiences as a student growing up and living in San Ramon. Their new,
developing viewpoints will be able to illustrate life in the community as it is understood among
San Ramon youth.

Categories and Rules:
Students should write their poem to answer the prompt that is based on their age category. Poems
should not exceed 2 pages, 8.5’’ x 11’’. They should be persuasive, informative, and artistic.
Entries must be turned in an online application available at SRTeen.org.

Prompts:

• For students in 6th grade to 8th grade: Speak about your favorite place or memory in San Ramon during Spring or Summer.
• For students in 9th grade to 12th grade: How has San Ramon shaped you to be the person you are today?

Prizes:
Winners will get the opportunity to present their poem at the Arts & Wind Festival. Poetry will
also be posted on the City of San Ramon’s Teen Website, www.SRTeen.org. There will also be a
monetary reward in form of a gift certificate.

Student Eligibility and Judging:
Participants must be in 6th grade — 12th grade. Students must be attending a SRVUSD school or
residing in San Ramon in order to take part in the competition. Participants can submit up to 2
pieces. The Arts Advisory Committee and San Ramon Poet Laureate may comprise the panel to
