 Fun on the Farm

Saturdays from 11am to 2pm

Fun on the Farm Activities are FREE* crafts and activities that highlight farm life and the late Victorian era.  These Saturday events are an opportunity to step back into history and enjoy the simple things of life.   These free Saturday events are a partnership between the City of San Ramon and the San Ramon Historic Foundation. 
*Special events hosted by the San Ramon Historic Foundation are fee-based fund-raising programs that require registration and will be indicated as such.

MAY

May 2 May Day
Come celebrate May Day. May Day is an age-old festival to celebrate spring. Learn to dance around the May Pole. Make a flower craft and tussie-mussie to take home.

May 9 Flower Pressing
During Victorian times flower pressing was one way to capture and preserve the beauty of the natural world. Make your own flower press to take home.

May 14 All About Bees
Did you know Forest Home Farms used to sell honey at their farm stand in the 1930s? Learn about these pollinators, taste some fresh honey and make a bee craft.

May 23 CLOSED 
Closed for Memorial Day. Visit the Art & Wind Festival on Sunday and Monday.

May 30 Tea Traditions
Come celebrate Ruth Boone by enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, having afternoon tea. Learn about the tradition of tea and make a tea craft to take home.

JUNE

Jun 6 – Barns
Take a tour of the farms 1850’s Barn and learn about the tools and animals inside.  Make your own hand-crafted barn with barn animals.

Jun 13 – Flag Day
Learn all about the history of the flag, the flag code (etiquette), how to fold an American Flag properly and a take home flag craft.

Jun 20 – Sun Prints
Sun printing is based on the cyanotype process, which has been used by artists since the 20th century. Collect objects from around the farm to make your own unique print to take home.

June 27 – Corn Art
Come have some fun and express your creativity by making a corn kernel inspired art piece.

Jul 11 – Rug Weaving
Victorians used what was available to them and made the most of it.  One way to reuse old clothes is to weave the fabric into a small rug. Old T-shirts will be cut into fabric strips for these rugs.  Bring your own old shirts or use materials provided.

Jul 18 –  Old Fashioned Lawn Games
Lawn games have been around for centuries in various forms. Come learn about some of the most common and popular to the Victorian Era in the United States and try your hand at a few!

Jul 25 - Old Fashion Ice Cream
It’s National Ice Cream Month!  Come learn how this sweet treat came to be.  Help us make our own homemade ice cream and sample this frosty favorite!
