Landscape Maintenance

The City manages more than 400 acres of improved landscaping throughout public rights-of-way, medians, and Special Assessment Zones. All routine maintenance is performed by private contractors, with City staff providing oversight to ensure compliance with contract requirements and established landscape maintenance standards.

Core services include:

  • Turf mowing for healthy, well-maintained lawn areas
  • Shrub and groundcover pruning to maintain plant health and visibility
  • Tree pruning and removal for safety, clearance, and appearance
  • Leaf and litter collection to keep public spaces clean and accessible
  • Weed abatement to control invasive growth and maintain a tidy landscape
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to minimize pesticide use and protect the environment
  • Fertilization to promote long-term plant vitality

The City’s landscape maintenance standards establish service levels, appearance expectations, and sustainability goals. These standards are applied citywide, including in Special Assessment Zones where enhanced maintenance is funded by local property owners.

Service level reductions, often due to budget limitations or staffing constraints, may affect landscape appearance. These reductions can result in less frequent mowing, pruning, or weed control. City staff continue to monitor site conditions and prioritize services based on safety, visibility, and overall aesthetics.
