Dougherty Valley Tree and Planting Strip Management Plan

In early 2017, the City of San Ramon formed the Dougherty Valley Tree Citizens Committee (DVTCC) to evaluate issues related to trees that were planted in narrow turf strips throughout Dougherty Valley neighborhoods. The DVTCC was comprised of concerned Dougherty Valley residents appointed by the City Council to work with City staff to develop a Dougherty Valley Tree and Planting Strip Management Plan. The plan describes issues with the trees including damage to infrastructure caused by tree roots and identifies criteria and strategies to address the problems to minimize property damage while promoting a desirable tree canopy and sustainable landscape. Approved by the City Council in November 2017, the City’s Public Works Department is in the process of implementing the plan.
